Més que Pilates…

People the world over are waking up in their droves to the combined benefits and beauty of Pilates. It is a wonderful thing, but somewhere along the way I so wonder whether too many classes have become over-complicated in their methodology and over-subscribed in numbers.

That was one driving force — apart from the fact that I absolutely love Pilates — behind me setting up a Barcelona-based Pilates Club. The Club has a few more “core” values too, beyond the mighty abdominal powerhouse in which us Pilates people, of course, do trust.

At Club Pilates, I go back to Pilates basics, by offering intimate group classes of a maximum of six students, affording each one the attention that this technical discipline requires.

I believe Pilates sometimes alienates would-be partakers is that it is often very expensive. I would like my clients to be able to, literally, afford to come to Pilates, enabling all walks of life to experience its myriad physical and mental benefits. This is why my classes are intended to be accessibly priced, and why I offer discounts for those who are not in employment or who are in compromised economic situations (please contact me directly).

My six different class types have their own flavour and set of exercises correspondingly. I have created these class types on the one hand by deducing from my experience what might be driving people to come to Pilates classes, be it back ache, sports injury or general curiosity and no specific ill state of bodily affairs! On the other hand, I offer only classes in those areas in which I feel both qualified and passionate as dictated by my own personal background and colourful adventures with Pilates.

I do believe in structure at least some fort of medium-term commitment plan when it comes to Pilates (I’ve met too many Pilates one timers). Pilates is a progressive art and I desperately want to help others experience the positive feedback that comes over a short period of doing it properly and regularly. And so, my courses are always 8-weekly and I like to keep students fully engaged with what they are working on in class by handing out a little exercise menu at the start of each one. This, of course, also doubles as Pilates Homework! Along the same vein, I encourage students to bring a little exercise book to classes to make notes of the individual advice I am able to afford by building small group classes. Practice makes Pilates!

It’s not all torture though. At my classes, you can always be sure to arrive into the arms of chocolate and fresh water. Plus, if you pick the right time of day to come to class, you can add a post-workout fruit juice or cava to that!

To further add to the sensory pleasure of it all, you can opt for one of my classes using wireless fitness headphones. They’re not to everyone’s taste which is why I haven’t built them into every class on offer, but they are pretty cool and they are a great way to zone in.

When you live in Barcelona you don’t have to settle for exercising in church halls and windowless gyms, and that’s why I like to hold my classes in different inspiring locations across the city from the beachside to hotel rooftops with their unique panoramic views.

So, have a little peruse of the site, and sign up to something that grabs you!

Hope to see you soon!
